I wanted to give zero stars. The receptionist was nice, but the hair dresser had an attitude. I am am African American wirh Natural hair & the first thing she asked if I requested longer than 30 minutes! Im thinking.whose hair can you do in 30 minutes. She asked another stylist to take her 3:00. I wanted to leave, but wanted my hair done before I went back home to MI. When I got in the car I noticed that my hair was frizzy umderneath and my roots were not straightened. I paid $61 & tried to call several times to get the breakdown, but noone answered. I ended up redoing my hair later. The beauty school was much better than this
Had a wonderful experience here last Saturday. The space was very cleaned and organized. I went here to color my hair and I love the result. It was incredible!!
For CURLY HAIR, Nikki has a gift. The first time I walked in make an appointment, the receptionist asked "Have you been here before?" When I replied "No", a voice called "Oh, she's mine! I know exactly what to do with those curls!" That was probably 12 years ago. She also is magical with hair color.
I voiced my issue, but Im sure nothing was done. Feel rippef off!
I did not have the awesome John Jay experience today at the St. Charles Ave. location. I went in for a highlight retouch, deep condition, cut and style. What I received was just the top of my head highlighted. I asked for complete head of highlights because that's the way I like it for summer. When I asked again for the complete head, the stylist told me I didn't need it. After I insisted, she spot highlighted the rest. I was there for a couple of hours, but was never offered anything to drink in the middle of this summer heat. While I was under the dryer for a deep condition, I called the front desk on my cell phone and asked for some water. There was no consultation about how I wanted my hair cut and styled. I was not asked to change out of my wet cloak and into a dry styling cape. The salon was dirty and I had to clean the purse shelf with a wet towel before I could put my purse on it. When the stylist opened her supply door, there was a pile a hair swept into the bottom of it and it was about a foot high. Gross. The cut was mediocre and I left with no style to my hair. By the way, the receptionist was, for lack of a better word, rude when I called in to make the appointment.
As far as the salon itself, I like that there are no picture windows allowing the passing public to gawk like some salons are doing these days. And they offer a variety of services. The only drawback: JJBS can be pricey.
The salon was nice looking and clean when we went. The staff was friendly. Would probably give 5 stars if the beautician wouldn't have BURNED MY WIFE'S FACE WITH THE CURLING IRON ON OUR WEDDING DAY.
