They sell a really big ham sandwich with an olive spread. It must be impressive to somebody but not to me. However, they do have stuff on the shelf that you won't find in most stores outside of the Italian Market in South Philly or the old country.
Ordered the half muffuletta sandwich for $10.50. There was a perfect balance of the meat, cheese, olive mix and bread. I don't normally like olives but the balance was perfect and the flavors meshed really well. The half size would definitely be enough for one person or to share with somebody as large snack.
The go-to sandwich to order at this mainstay French Quarter Italian Grocery is the muffaletta - a large bun layered with Provolone cheese, Swiss cheese, mortadella, mozzarella, salami, ham and olives. Order before noon - especially on busy holidays and weekends. The sandwiches sell out fast. You can eat in the grocery but the space is limited. There are plenty of outdoor spaces available if the weather is nice - especially along the River or near the Saint Joan of Arc statue nearby.
THIS IS WHERE YOU WANT TO HAVE LUNCH! We tried this deli about 6 years ago while on a short visit to New Orleans and their muffuletta sandwich was incredibly satisfying.Fast forward to May 2017....we're visiting again and it's still absolutely fantastic.Of course silly us forgot just how big a full sandwich is and we could only get through half.At 20 bucks for the whole shebang it sounds a lot of dough but the sandwich is really huge and they stack plenty of tasty filling on it.We gave the the other half to a homeless lady just outside.Thanks to Bradley for the friendly service and also to John the manager for the nice welcome.
