July 1st rolled around, and NO passport came. I began to panic because now it was less than five days to departure for our vacation. So I called the toll-free hotline, and the first representative was very friendly and his name was Walt. Walt stated that everything was in processing and that everything was moving well, and said that it was a busy time, and that I should receive my passport before my flight because he put it in the notes when I travelled. The following day came, and again NO passport. I then called, and was greeted by Gabe. Gabe was not very helpful and I felt like I was rushed. I asked about the status of my passport and he said it was "in processing" and seemed irritated by my call. I asked him if there is anything I could do to ensure the timely arrival of my passport. He said, "No, you're just going to have to wait." I then asked him about the email notifications and if he could tell if I would be receiving them. Gabe said, "No, all I can tell you is that your passport is still processing and that if you were to get an email notification it would be because there is a problem with your passport." I then told Gabe that wasn't the case because my wife received her's just fine and she received several. I then tried later and spoke to a representative by the name of Dilly. Dilly seemed to be bothered by my numerous questions and concerns about my passport as well. "Sir, we have your date of travel as the 7th of July, oh sorry! I'm mean the 6th with a laugh. All I can tell you is it's still processing and that your going to have to be patient. This is after I told her that I poured nearly $4500 on a non-refundable trip.

My wife's passport progress went timely, and as planned. She received regular email alerts, and the passport arrived in 2 weeks. I also applied for email alerts, and NEVER received one during the process. I never thought anything of it, and was figuring it would arrive along with my wife's passport in the mail.

First off, I normally don't complain about service and especially when it has to deal with the government. We all know it is a slow process. I've been in the Military--hurry up and wait. But what I experienced from this particular passport agency is darn-right dirty!

It was 2 days before my trip and I decided to get my Congressman involved. Within hours of calling the Congressman, I received a voicemail from the passport agency (while I was at work) that my passport could not be processed and that I would be receiving a letter in the mail as to why. The Congressman called me back thirty minutes later to tell me that my passport was denied due to back child support. The back child support amount to deny a passport is in-excess of $2500. I wasn't even near that mark and I was making consistent payments. I called the Child Support Agency and promptly had the hold lifted manually. Called the passport hotline to tell them the news only to be told that it was "still processing" and everything seems to be good-to-go. I called the Congressman back and she told me that she was going to work at getting the passport moving along before my trip. While my Congressman's efforts was greatly appreciated and her tiredless efforts fruitful, I received my passport 1 day late.

I received my birth certificate back from the U.S Department of State, Folded, and a Coffee stain on one corner. Very... Very Displeased. And also disappointed of the Government.

Surprisingly painless and the staff was great! The negative reviews had me worried, especially because I needed my passport in less than 72 hrs...but i was in and out in less than an hour, granted i scheduled my appointment early. The only way that I can see this process being a headache is if you show up unprepared. Go to the website, print that stuff, bring all of your personal info, photos, and get your travel on!

the police were there on time to tell me that the actual employees would be two hours late. good to know someone is clocked in. keep up the great work guys.

I applied for a passport at my local recorder's office here in Des Moines, IA on June 9th. Our date of travel was July 6th. My wife and I applied at the exact time and we went the expedited route (2-3 weeks for delivery).

My long awaited trip and money down the drain! What can I do? I want my money back lost for my flight and trip!

whoa these reviews! just wanted to say THANKS to all those who took the time to share their experiences. sadly, it's the negative ones that resonate as authentic. i will submit my daughter's application at the metairie post office -- and not downtown. thank you for the warning!
