If you've ever been to Austin around the Christmas season, you know about the Trail of Lights. This is the New Orleans version of the event. This one is organized so much better! It also has the added benefit of having numerous carnival style rides. You can choose a single ride or unlimited rides (the better way to go), as well as entry to the park, or entry to the park and rides. If you choose the full package, you can simply bypass the ticket line to the entrance. The wait in the ticket line is very efficient though too.

We had an amazing time here. Even the 2 teenagers were we brought with us enjoyed themselves. To be honest, the staff working was rude at every turn. I know it was cold and a lot of stuff was happening at once, but if your staff isn't friendly people get seriously turned off from attending. For the prices involved, they should NEVER have a cross word or look! The vendors were great though!! They were friendly & knowledgeable. We will return next year, but will not hesitate to report the staff if need be.

It isn't for the locals anymore. It's still beautiful but unorganized. Too many entrances, no direction on where to go, and they sell alcohol. The few free attractions they offered that the little ones could go on were overrun with older kids pushing their way to the front of the little ones and their intoxicated parents did nothing to stop this behavior. This used to be such a great experience and I couldn't wait to share it with my son, but we will not be returning, totally disappointed.

One of my favorite New Orleans holiday traditions. See Storyland and the botanical gardens of City Park decorated with festive lights. $9 entry, refreshments and snacks available inside. Carnival rides and the gorgeous carousel are running, and you can even ride a miniature locomotive around the park to see extra light displays.

Several of the park's attractions (the cactus greenhouse, the fossil house, etc) are open during the event as well.

Starting in 1984 as "Tribute to a Christmas Tree" this amazing exhibit of lights, music, food, drink, activities under the primal live Oaks of City Park. Because of the temperate Holiday weather, it's a pleasant and exciting walk. Very kid friendly. Buy your tickets online! Or join the Friends of City Park. The lines can be brutal!
