While the salon was very accommodating when it came to scheduling and the owner was friendly, that was where the positives I can say about this place ended. I came into town for an event uptown and wanted to have my make-up done (I don't usually wear a lot and wanted a more polished bold look). The make-up artist barely greeted me and it appeared that she had just rolled out of bed or left the gym as her hair was a mess and she had no make-up on herself. This was odd considering her job. I showed her a picture of what I was looking for and she asked me what colors I was wearing so she could match my eyeshadow. This should have been my first clue - the picture I showed her was all natural colors and I certainly did not want to match my dress. Anyways, for that straightened out and she began. She did my foundation but gave absolutely no attentions to covering uneven skin tone or the permanent bags I have under my eyes from allergies. She did LESS than I do to cover those bags. Then she did my eyes and the eyeliner was incredibly thick and looked like it had been done while riding a cross town bus in Orleans Parish. It was so jagged and uneven I asked her to make it much thinner. She tried, but the result was basically exactly the same. I asked her to skip the eyeliner (so that I could do it myself at home). She did not do any highlighting or contouring and barely out any blush on me. Finally she applied lipstick. She didn't line it and again, it looked like my lipstick had been applied in a bouncy house at a 5 year old's birthday party. I just let it go knowing I could fix it at home. What's worse though is that after she applied my lipstick (using lipstick I brought) she put the cap back on without rolling the lipstick down and smashed the lipstick up into the top of the cap! The lipstick is not longer usable without a brush for application. This was a very disappointing experience and I would not recommend this salon. Overall, the other employees were eating chicken wings in the customer area and talking about other patrons after they left. Reconsider your decision to go here.
The Retreat is a comfortable place to go for salon services. The staff are very sweet. Jamie is very skilled at cutting hair and I would recommend her to anyone.
