Overall, a nice place to stop by for a quick bite. That's about it.
After so many recommendations to eat Beignet because, I was afraid of the repercussions of returning to my hometown without trying it in New Orleans. I finally had some Beignet here since the "local guides" seem to prefer this place over the other hype train called the Cafe du Monde. I guess I don't get the hype. It is fried dough. But I guess there are people who love this so I will leave it at that. I am just not into it as much as others I guess.
The beignets are quite good. The serving leaves a lot to be desired: not enough seating, but they keep taking orders so there are many people standing around holding numbers with no place to sit. Most of the food is served on open styrofoam plates, so you can’t take it home, but the beignets were served in a paper bag - not convenient for eating at a table! Time to re-think your service!
However, I liked the ambience at this place. Little sparrows roaming freely inside the cafe, making this a "lively" place. I did get their hash browns as well, which was good.
I found the beignets to be a bit better than Café du Monde, they also offer a wide range of other normal breakfast fair.
The location is great and the views are really cool. The food is great - they are currently in the process of updating their menu though, so there may be some surprises in your order :)
Easily the best beignets in New Orleans, no matter what Cafe Du Monde will tell you. The lines may be crazy, depending on the time of day, but if you're just looking for a quick snack in the middle of the afternoon, you shouldn't have a problem. I will only eat at Cafe Beignet now when I have a hankering for a good NOLA powdered doughnut!
