This is a fountain lying at one end of the former Lovers' Lane in Audubon Park. This was a walking lane, through large oak trees terminating at the Newman Bandstand. After a rain, it's more apparent that this path was slightly elevated (the water will shed away from the center of the path). Dogs are allowed in this fountain, or at least tolerated. It is not well-maintained and is normally full of oak leaves but this area is still beautiful and one of the areas most tourists would tend not to notice. Great photo spot.
This little fountain is a hidden gem. It is dedicated as a wading pool for the children of New Orleans. I used to take my now grown daughter there as a little child, which she greatly enjoyed. No crowds, noise, deep end or big kids. Plenty of shade. Today the water was clean with just a little sand on the bottom at one end. Park in the downtown end of the zoo lot as if you were going to the Tea Room. There is a driveway with a do not enter sign along the edge of the parking lot. Walk down this path along the outer zoo fence to access the fountain. There is a twin of this feature in City Park near Storyland.
