Service was great, prices were cheap. Came on a less busy day, half an hour after opening. Ordered two poor boys, one roast beef, one shrimp. Both dressed. Toppings were great but bread was unusually tough. Crunch outside, as expected, but almost like rubber inside. Made sandwich very difficult to eat. I assume this is a one-off scenario, as the place is so highly recommended by locals. Maybe bread wasn't as fresh as usual? Kind of a big deal when talking about a po' boy!
We were recommended this place by a friend who lived in NOLA a decade. Best Po' boys! He was not wrong. We walked all the way from the French quarter (long walk) and made it here by 10am. By 10:40, there was a line. Doors opened at 11am and an hour later when we left, still a line. The food is delicious! The shrimp and tartar sauce are to die for. The staff and people are so kind and wonderful. 10/10 would recommend. We were only in NOLA for a couple hours before a flight and came HERE.
The quintessential po-boy place. Generous portions, full bar, they have all standards and a bunch of special ones as well. Such as a surf and turf with roast beef and shrimp on it. The only thing that holds this place back is it it's crowded is a long line often. They also offer vegetarian Po-Boys. Overall it's definitely a bucket list place to go when you come to New Orleans, but it's becoming so popular and there are so many other choices around it might be a problem if you don't like waiting.
Parking is good, well lite, be careful getting back on River road. Rams are available for wheelchair from parking too inside. Food is prepared after ordered. Very quick & friendly service. Food had excellent taste and served very attractive. Desert was excellent.
While I understand that it's a NO icon...I wasn't as blown away as I expected (or was advised) that I'd be. Sorry. A lot of food, guaranteed. Enjoyed tasting the alligator sausage, but otherwise, I am glad I visited to check it off my NO bucket list.
