Pretty easy bike ride due to the general lack of hills though not a great workout in the same sense if that's what you're looking for.
This was an amazing way to see the non-touristy side of New Orleans! The pace is easy, the guides are knowledgeable, and when able, they'll try to incorporate things that you tell them you'd like to see (we got to see a cemetery!!). The guides are also great about giving you history and local info about the communities through which you ride. They also give you a bottle of water and a koozie from the start so that you stay hydrated. The bikes are in excellent condition, you are provided with a helmet, and you'll never once feel unsafe. This is the only way to tour New Orleans!
Our guide, Dereck, was friendly and knowledgeable. The biking was predominantly flat and easy to manage. The tour gave an interesting and different way to view the city than most other tours. We just saw so much of the city. And we were able to stop and ask questions whenever we wanted; this personal experience makes for a much richer and vibrant tour. I would recommend this for anyone. Pro tip: do this on your first day so you can get to know New Orleans.
We did the culinary tour and my man Victor absolutely crushed this tour for us - he was cool AF to hang out with for a few hours and super knowledgable about the local scene. He is from the neighbourhood, a New Orleans foodie to the core, and local biking advocate
Incredibly friendly and helpful folks! Had a brilliant day.
We were at first concerned that this would be a yet another instance if rich white people perusing the devastation of poor people of color and feeling good about it. While there was definitely an unavoidable tinge of that, stopping at the House of Dance & Feathers helped settle that some and our guide's knowledge of and emphasis on the socioeconomic realities that led to the devastation of Katrina (and it's lasting impact) made us feel like we were really getting something worthwhile out of it and helping give back to the people that need it.
