For old times sake we had the gumbo and the Slow Roasted Duck in Sherry Orange Sauce, and two of the new offerings: Ponce de Lapin as an appetizer and Crabmeat Stuffed Flounder
The service was impeccable! I wasn't that impressed by the meal, but it could have been an off night.
The duck and gumbo were excellent, bringing back memories of good friends and great meals, and the new dishes were exceptional, and will be revisited on subsequent dinners at Gabrielle.
Gabrielle was one of our favorite restaurants pre- Katrina, and we have been fans of Chef Sonnier's cooking ever since our first meal at the old Esplanade Avenue location.
My first experience at Gabrielle was wonderful. First of all it has a cozy, warm, upscale yet casual ambience. I started with a Sazerac cocktail, then had the grilled shrimp salad, a special off-menu entree with oysters and shrimp, vegetables to accommodate my pescatarian request (my husband had a special off-menu vegetarian dish.) We finished by splitting a huge slice of the Aloha cake. Friends had the duck. All of us were blown away with how delicious and perfect everything was. And the service was A+. Couldn't get any better. We will be back. Gabrielle is a New Orleans gem.
We are so happy that he has reopened, albeit in a different location, and that he is once again cooking in his own kitchen.
Wonderful food, amazing service. Try the BBQ Shrimp pie, the she crab bisque and the duck.
The excellent food at Gabrielle is matched only by the equally impressive service. Highly recommended.
