Some staff were nice. Food not seasoned at all as all the other good New Orleans restaurants. Red beans and Rice and gumbo is like a soup. You would think they’re cooking for a retirement home or nursing home because of the non flavor. Ham was the only decent flavored item. Have had much better in NOLA. Wouldn’t recommend anyone for anything here.
I heard there were long lines, but we came on a night when there wasn't one. Food came out quick. I had the soft shelled crab po'boy. I wished there was more crab. It was good, but now that I've had it once, might never have it again. My hubby had a sandwich that had gravy on it. Sounds weird, but he said it was good.
Excellent food, old style cafeteria food, red beans and rice, and ham is savory and delicious. Family friendly and clean. Don't worry about the line it goes fast. I could eat at Mother's everyday. Old style service takes time but the people are so nice. Great place to watch sports. Big tables in the back are great for groups.
Nostalgic but the food reviews must be mostly hype. Not worth the wait. Like a dirty dive bar, serving fried cafeteria food of mediocre quality. Nothing tasty about the fried calamari or roast beef po-boys we had. Expensive for the quality. We also had issues with the service. Better places to spend your $$s on food in NOLA.
Easy to find, although not so easy to figure out how to order if you haven't been here before. Check out a menu, then order at the window cafeteria style, then put your receipt on your table. They'll bring the food to you, along with any table service you might need. You also don't need to tip. The food I had was good, but not as amazing as what people make it out to be. The place itself is outdated, but I guess that's what gives it some of it's charm.
